Closure update

May 17, 2020

Dear friends and massage enthusiasts,

Bad news first: I’ve received word from my professional organization and the State of Vermont that massage therapists are not permitted to practice at this time, and that we don’t currently have a timeline as to when we will be able to.  I had really hoped to be back to work by this weekend, but it’s not to be.  Vermont considers massage to be part of the “health and beauty” industry and so we are pretty far down the list as far as reopening goes.

Fortunately all my clients are absolutely beautiful anyway, so I know you are not suffering the loss of the beauty industry.

Health, on the other hand…I know many of you are eager to get back to bodywork as soon as possible.  I am too.  While we wait for the plague to pass us by, the bodywork team at Open Door has been discussing what things will look like when we are able to reopen.  Your safety and health are paramount, so things will look different for a while.  There will be pre-screening, masks, a different intake process, more time between appointments for rigorous sanitizing, and contactless payment.   While there is no way to eliminate all risk, we are all committed to reducing risk as much as possible for ourselves and our clients.

I tentatively imagine that I may be able to reopen the week of June 15, but I emphasize that is *very* tentative.

I am also eliminating all penalties for late cancellations or no-shows for the duration of the pandemic.  If you have any doubts whatsoever about your health or worry you may have been exposed to someone with the virus, please reschedule.  I pledge to do the same for you.

In the meantime, please visit opendoorworkshop.com – many of my colleagues have developed wonderful online classes to keep you moving and feeling good.  Open Door also has an Instagram page and a Facebook page.  All of us at Open Door are independent practitioners but we are all together in wishing you the best possible health.

Thank you for the kind encouragement many of you have sent my way, it’s very much appreciated.  Gift certificates can be arranged by emailing me anytime.   I hope and pray to be seeing you in a month or so!  Stay safe!
